Franciscan Youth (Youfra)

The Franciscan Youth (Youfra) is an International fellowship of young people who feel called by the Holy Spirit to have an experience of Christian life, in fraternity, and in the light of the message of Francis of Assisi, deepening their vocation within the realm of the Secular Franciscan Order (SFO).
Youfra belongs to the Franciscan family as an integral part of the SFO and considers the Rule of the SFO as the inspirational document for the growth of its own Christian and Franciscan vocation, both individually and as a group.
The form of life of the Youfra is this: to observe the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, following the example of St. Francis of Assisi who made Christ the inspiration and center of his life with God and people.
In the Ugandan context, this group is referred to as the Youfra Uganda and members are called to seek the living and acting person of Christ in the brothers and sisters, in Holy Scriptures, in the Church and in liturgical celebrations.
As bearers of peace and being aware that peace is to be built up without ceasing, we search for paths of unity and fraternal understanding through dialogue, trusting in the presence of the divine seed in everyone, and in the transforming power of love and forgiveness.
The Bright Doves of St. Francis who are the Youfras in Kamwokya (Holy Trinity) Parish runs under the Patronage of St. Maximilian Kolbe Fraternity (SFO) and the Kampala Youfra Region.
Our Strategy
Through Gospel living as inspired by Francis’ words “... going f rom Gospel to life and life to the Gospel”, we will help Youth develop and internalize their Christian calling by serving others especially the poor and vulnerable in our society. “The Good Samaritan” Lk. 10:25-37
Our Coverage:
As youth inspired by the life of St Francis of Assisi in responding to their Christian calling, the Young Franciscans respond to challenges of social justice, interreligious dialogue, values of Justice, Peace and Integrity of creation and non-violence and are currently present in 11 out of the 19 Catholic Dioceses of Uganda.
